Legacy Bluetooth headsets may allow pairing all the time when it is turned on, and a preset pairing code is required before a constant connection can be established.
Bluetooth headsets of nowadays support Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) means pairing code is no more required, user has to enter the pairing mode manually before mobile phones or other Bluetooth enabled devices can search the Bluetooth headset. (Method of entering pairing mode may varies upon different brands and models, but in general, pressing and hold the power button when your Bluetooth headset is off until the indication LED flashing different colors alternatively.)
